A new proof-of-concept study is laying the groundwork for a more comprehensive view of ADRC participants’ health by linking NACC’s rich longitudinal data with electronic health records and Medicare claims. Led by NACC Director Kari Stephens, PhD, in collaboration with Washington University in St. Louis, Indiana University, and Columbia University, the project successfully linked data for thousands of participants while developing solutions to complex governance, privacy, and technical challenges. The approach could ultimately help researchers investigate new questions about Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias using integrated research and real-world health data.

Late-Life Depression and AD/ADRD Interface: Understanding Mechanisms to Move Towards Precision Medicine

This joint workshop, co-hosted by the National Institute on Aging and the National Institute of Mental Health, will convene leaders in the field to assess the state of science regarding comorbidity, overlap, and distinction between depression, particularly late-life depression (LLD), and Alzheimer’s disease and Alzheimer’s disease related dementias (AD/ADRD).

NIA Mentorship Prize: 2026 Competition Recognizing Excellence in Aging Research
Mentorship Nomination Deadline: September 15, 2026, 5 pm ET
Award Amount: $100,000 per winning mentor, up to $600,000 total prize pool
The National Institute on Aging (NIA) is accepting mentee nominations for the 2026 NIA Mentorship Prize Competition, which recognizes excellence in aging research mentorship. Current or former trainees may nominate an NIA-funded faculty mentor; mentors who receive at least two nominations and meet eligibility criteria will be invited to submit a full application by November 23, 2026. NIA will award $100,000 each to up to six mentors, three in the early career category and three in the midcareer or established category, with prizes paid directly to the mentor's institution.

The National Institute on Aging (NIA) Imbedded Pragmatic Alzheimer’s Disease and Alzheimer’s Disease-Related Dementias (AD/ADRD) Clinical Trials (IMPACT) Collaboratory is now accepting applications for the Demonstration Projects Program for non-pharmacological interventions for people living with dementia and their care partners.
Part the Cloud: Enable the Molecule for AI-Discovered Programs
Letter of Intent Deadline: October20, 2026, 5 pm ET
Award Amount: Up to $1 million over two to three years
The Alzheimer’s Association’s PTC-EM-AI program supports therapeutic candidates discovered through artificial intelligence or machine learning. Funding is intended to move promising Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias programs through lead optimization or investigational new drug–enabling studies. Proposed projects must connect an AI-discovered therapeutic candidate with experimental validation; projects focused solely on computational methods or general AI-tool development are not eligible.
Bridge Funding for Disrupted Neurodegenerative Research
Letter of Intent Deadline: October30, 2026, 5 pm ET
Award Amount: Up to $250,000 for three to 12 months
This Alzheimer’s Association program provides bridge funding to early-stage investigators whose neurodegenerative-disease research has been disrupted by recent changes or delays in U.S. federal funding. Applicants must be within seven years of their NIH Early Stage Investigator designation and provide documentation of the funding disruption. Projects that missed funding solely because of an established payline cutoff are not eligible.
