AxonDeepSeg: A Journey through Recent Applications
Date: Wednesday, March 26, 2025
Time: 2:00 - 3:00 pm ET / 11:00 AM - 12:00 pm PT
This webinar is hosted by the Digital Pathology Working Group in collaboration with NACC.
AxonDeepSeg is free open-source software that allows morphometric analysis of axons in histology images. Digital pathology data contains an incredible wealth of information, but taking manual measurements at the cell level is time-consuming, hence the need for automatic methods.
In this talk, Armand Collin will briefly explain the principles of its deep learning-based backbone and showcase multiple recent applications on human nerve samples or animal models with his collaborators.
Agenda:
-
Context (presentation of the software, history)
-
Deep Learning for Image Segmentation
-
Recent Applications
- Future Work

"I obtained my bachelor's degree in electrical engineering at Polytechnique Montréal and have had a growing interest in artificial intelligence ever since. I study deep learning at Mila since 2022 under the supervision of Professor Julien Cohen-Adad. I have been maintaining and contributing to AxonDeepSeg for about 4 years, improving the software and training hundreds of models."
